Best area to live?
#1
Hi allWe're a couple in our late forties coming ot live in Oxford Jan 2010! (Exciting!)
We want everyone's opinions on the best places to live. I'll be working in Bicester (well actually just near Littel Chesterton at Bignell Park Barns) Not sure yet where my husband will work.
We want to rent a flat for up to 900 pouinds PCM, furnished prob.
We like lots of cafes, pubs, watching football (and rugby if poss!!), restaurants etc. We both play squash, and I've heard that the best squash club is in Abingdon???
Any ideas would be much appreciated. Currently we're thinking about Headington, we like Summertown and Jericho but I think they're a bit dear.
Any help mcuh appreciated!!
Cheers
Donna

summertown's the nicest and most expensive. it has best access to bicester of all oxford's suburbs. 900 may just get you a one bed flat there.marston's nice, with good access to the town centre. headington is a little further out but nice too (shops, pubs etc).
east oxford / cowley road's okay if you like it lively - its full of students.
i'd give abingdon a miss - a nightmare drive to bicester.
woodstock may be worth considering, its a market town / village, just north of oxford. its very pretty and has a decent amount of shops etc. as its outside the town you may even get a 2 bed house there for 900 a month.
try rightmove.co.uk or dailyinfo.co.uk for houses / flats ...

Thanks Dan that's really helpful. Is Woodstock the place near Blenheim Palace??

Yes. Good luck with your move. #5
Hi DonnaWoodstock is very quiet apart from coachloads of tourists flocking to Blenheim Palace - doesn't have a good variety of cafes, pubs, or restaurants. Think you'd get bored quite soon. Best to go for an Oxford location - Jericho and Summertown are nice but pricey, headington and marston might be best, though you could consider East Oxford and Iffley Fields if you don't mind lots of students - at least there are loads of places to go out ..
